Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz. Commanded U.S. forces in the Pacific Theater.
Admiral Charles Lockwood. Commanded U.S. Navy submarine fleet in the Pacific under Admiral Nimitz. After a rocky start at the beginning of the war, the U.S. Navy submarine fleet rallied under Lockwood and crippled Japanese shipping.
Admiral Raymond Spruance. Cool and steady, Spruance distinguished himself at the Battle of Midway.
Admiral Richmond Kelly Turner. Born in Oregon, but grew up in Stockton, California. Hot headed, he was known as "Terrible Turner", but nonetheless was an able commander and strategist. Turner drew up the plans for the amphibious assault on Japan, but the plans were not executed because the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki ended the war.

What a great tribute to these brave men who fought for our free world. My father sailed all through the war together with the Americans and other allied ships.
War is hell and every casualty is one too much.
My Brother served his 4years in the Pacific aboard the Baron DE166.
I am amazed at the Admirals being buried with the men who served with, and under them, that alone is a great tribute, 'EVEN IN DEATH".
Thanks, for putting a light on this! I love learning, even at this age.
AGAIN THANKS!
I feel pride in what those men accomplished in the Pacific, and sad at the same time, AT THE GREAT COST. Very moving pictures.

Interesting, I didn't realize that many famous admirals were buried here. Lots of history just reading all the tombstones.
