Bacchanalian figures celebrating wine adorn this large vase in Golden Gate Park outside the
de Young Museum, «Louis'» new favorite building to hate, replacing the long-time former #1 on his list,
le centre Pompidou in Paris. Modern "architects" seem to be having a contest for which one can design the ugliest and most oppressive building. The de Young makes
San Quentin Prison an inviting place by comparison. Here endeth the rant of «Louis». In the background is the
Sphinx we saw on the 1 May Theme Day - Statues.

You must not have been inside - I agree it's ugly from outside but inside it's a marvel. I love the gardens that slash into the building and the tower and the entrance with the sculpture by Andy Goldsworthy (one of my favorite artists). Not to mention the very convenient parking! Even the copper skin is kind of neat once you get up close.
I suppose there is no form in function features anymore. Used to be a big thing when I worked in engineering.

That's quite an ornate vase! Like none I've seen before now!
You detest the new museum more than One Rincon? You have to admit the museum tower is wonderful. Don't you?

magnifique, on dirait qu'il sort du plus profond de la mer
I would still vote for the museum rather than Pompidou or Saint Quentin (remember the Johnny Cash sessions in Saint Quentin?)
This sculpture is interesting though, I kind of like it.

That's so funny, bacause whe I tell people I abhor Centre Pompidou, they all turn their noses like I stepped on dog poo.

Actually, I kind of like this....I'm always intrigued to look very closely at such 'sculptures.' The Centre Pompidou has grown on me, like the Pyramide du Louvre.
