Birthday Boy Bach Boogies to his Birthday!

J.S. Bach • 21 March 1685 - 28 July 1750

Statue of Bach at St. Thomas Kirche, Leipzig

That quintessential Lutheran composer, J.S. Bach was born on this day in 1685. Dr. Timothy Zerlang, Organist and Music Director at St. Mark's Lutheran Church marked the day by playing Bach's An Wasserflussen Babylon (BWV 653) as the prelude to the Chorale Mass today. The Offering Anthem was Bach's "Lord, Jesus Christ, Thou hast Prepared." The organ postlude was Aus tiefer Not ("Out of the depths I cry to you").

Listening to Bach is listening to a man inspired by God.

Das ist schon ein wunderbar Andenken von Johann Sebastian Bach! Ausgezeichnet!
Our church organist and director of music, Tim Strand, played lots of great Bach pieces at Gloria Dei this morning!
Herrlich!

So I heard. I have XM-Sirius radio in the car and they were playing Bach all day while I was doing my Sunday photo rituals. What a little treat to turn on the ignition and find The Goldberg Variations filling my vehicle.

About the only thing I miss about not going to church ... excellent music.

This trio of tunes would have been quite nice to experience.

Had no idea! Great statue and lovely prelude :)

Bach used his gift from God to give the world a lasting gift. I like the picture. I also like Germany.

Regarding the Bridge meme personally I would prefer it being on Sunday. Then I could participate more often and it wouldn't clash with Weekend Reflections.

We love his organ works, they're uncomparable! He was really a genius!
God bless you!
