Chuck Pefley, photographer and author of the blog One A Day - Mostly Seattle is famous around the blogosphere for his advocacy of Vespa scooters. As it happened, Chuck's post today, Dancing Chickens, was in part about the All City Community Scooter Event in Seattle. There must have been a similar event today in San Francisco. "Louis" was out on Divisidero searching for caffeine for himself and gasoline for his Vachemobile, oops, ahem, Volvo - when a huge group of Vespas went buzzing by! "Louis" grabbed his toy Olympus, giving chase in the Vachemobile, snapping shots through the dirty windshield. Alas, "Louis" couldn't get ahead of the pack of Vespas to get a better shot - and they left him in the dust at a stop sign, so "Louis" couldn't learn what was going on. Be all of that as it may, "Louis" dedicates this SPECIAL EDITION OF SAN FRANCISCO BAY DAILY PHOTO to CHUCK PEFLEY and his VESPAS!

Oh what fun to see all these Vespas in SF! Sorry to hear that La Vachemobile was outsmarted by a wild herd of them, but cool photos nonetheless. Thanks for stopping by my world; fun that you frequent the Monterey Market! Since I just work in SF and don't spend as much time there as I should, I can't wait to check out your archives and other blogs!!
Ah, but it is the thrill of the chase that counts most, no?

Mi dispiace, Louis, uno Vachemobile non è la competizione a uno sciame di vespe!
It looks like you made a valiant effort to keep up :) It would appear that you enjoyed yourself a great deal, however. From personal experience I know how hard it is to catch one or more Vespas with a car, in the city at least. The acceleration of a modern Vespa is very often quicker as there is so much less weight. Small, but mighty :)
My thanks to you for your excellent post and your dedication to moi. I am deeply honored.
Grazie, signore!
Outrun by a herd of wild Vespas. Oh Louis are you hanging your head low. but you have a Volvo--the safest car on earth--so how could you expect to catch anything.
I am glad Chuck read your post with glee. MBomljokz
Mes oui, quelle chance! To see all those scooters in one place.
Good for you and great for Chuck.
Makes me miss my small Honda. Had one in America and one in Israel.
But you are much safer in your Vachemobile. Love that name.
ho ho vroom vroom - see you on Wednesday!
My loulou chouchou Louis is a 'Mad Cow'. I posted about neolithic French sheep breeds instead of the holy cow. I have mended my ways and will post about you tomorrow. I understand that you have eaten my rippled chips. I understand. They are very salt lick like.
I want Louie to be careful of Vespas (wasps) that swarm from their hive. They are muliple stingers you know. Be sure to swish them away with your tail!
No! nt Vespa's....
Sorry I am a Lambretta Fan after owning a few of these great iconic machines in the 70s.. There was a great slogon that Lambretta came up with in the late 1960s.. Nothing as "SX appeal" like a new Lambretta" it was to advertise the new model, these being 150cc and 200cc. SX Lambretta's
We were out yesterday, on the motorbike, but noticed lots of scooters. There is a place in Bridlington where they meet up regularly! I will have to search my phptos for you!
Hmmmm V is for??????
Amazing that the chased them and didn't get around them to take them head on. Chuck explained why.
There are some prize winning photos in the pack.
Looks much better than the Harley Davidsons I saw when visiting SF!
Whole lotta VESPAS driving around ...
Funny one, there sure are a lot of them.
What an adventure!!
Nice work - as always. Lots of drama!
Interestng adventure, I haven't a vespa, I love it.
Don't hang your hear my friend Louis. The Vachemobile is known for its stamina and not its agility.
This was a great fun post. I enjoyed it immensely.

Hi Chuck, Leave it to California. I haven't ridden a Vespa or any other scooter since I was a teen. Cushman scooters, Allstates, and a variety of European built scooters were available then. Great choice for inner-city travel if you don't mind the elements. Pappy
I alway have been envious of those Vespa riders. Maybe one day....
Welcome to Odd Shots. I have added yo to our blogroll.
That has to be odd to see so many scooters in such a bunch. Be careful chasing and photographing at the same time, though.
Dennis thinks it looks like fun! Dennis has wanted a Vespa ever since he first saw Chuck Pefley's!
Un nuage de guêpes! Vrombissantes!
Ceici fait un sympathique article.
What a fun post! There sure were a lot of them in that herd!
LOL! I loved the narrative as much as I did the photos! =D
Oh, and I'm glad to have helped out with the tripod.
Ah! The thrill of the chase! A most delightful post, "Louis."
Wow Loius, you have excelled yourself. I see why you dedicated it to Chuck. Right up his vespa street. You really have doen a marvellous job with post the Boo, is amazed and delighted with the jampacked bumper edition today. Vroom Vroom indeed.
This is awsome!!!! I have posted some blue vespas, I'll try to post more!!! Thanks for informing me! I hadn't realized he was mad about Vespas!!!
Ah "Louis" once again your hooves let you down ... however it is wonderful how you were able to navigate Divisidaro w/its up and downs and still get a good bunch of photos! Bravo!
BTW .. Cinema Paradiso is one of my favs too ... it is one of the few subtitled films I will watch .. I hate, abhor, reading and watching ...
And thank you for your kind words on my Father's Day post
:-Daryl
These are great shots, Louis! Were you shooting as you were driving? C'est tres dangereaux, no?
What a fun Louis!! I shot some vespas today too. I love this post!!!
Nice tribute for Chuck!
Louis, I'd like to borrow some of this for my blog http://trainshots.blogspot.com, hope you don't mind, but be careful, do click only when you're on a stop ;-)
I like this special pst! It has Chuck all over it!
I'm going to Greece for a week, so I'll catch up with 'Louis' when I get back. See you then :)
I am so glad Louis emerged from his auto without incident, after taking such fabulous action photos!
I am sure Chuck loved these!
What a great post for Chuck! It sure appears you had a great time....and congrats on finding the cheaper gas!!! I love your post today! dirty windshield....not that visible!
With gas prices on the rise, I'm thinking a little vespa might be nice...
A fun post; paparazie chasing Vespa paparazie. I'd like ot have one of those classic 2-wheelers, but they don't work too well in our Minnesota snows.
Louis, Louis be careful with all those Vespas!
That's a lot of Vespas. Was it a special ride or something?
Louis - thanks for visiting my blog & the nice comments.
This reminds me of a Keystone Cops flick - quel dommage that the Vespas disappeared!
